NY Alliance Against Racist and Political Repression: WE STAND WITH RICK TOLEDO! DROP THE CHARGES NOW!
On March 6, Cal Poly Humbolt University police officers arrested activist and graduate student Rick Toledo after they brutally raided his home in the middle of the night. Toledo’s arrest comes after a protest in February, in which students demanded that Cal Poly Humboldt divest from Israeli apartheid and defend its students against ICE. As a result, he is now facing serious felony charges, including assault, battery, and false imprisonment.
The New York Alliance condemns this clear act of political repression by the State of California and the Cal Poly Humboldt Police. We stand in solidarity with Rick Toledo and defend his right to protest.
Toledo was not only arrested, but also suspended from the university and fired from his job, which are cruel acts of retaliation for speaking out and standing up to the people in power.
It is not just Rick Toledo under attack in this case: it is all people’s right to protest without fear. We must stand up to defend that right, and protect our voices from the people who try to silence us.
The New York Alliance calls for all charges to be dropped against Rick Toledo. We stand with the students at Cal Poly Humboldt and on every campus to exercise their right to protest without facing retaliation from their university or repression from their government.
PROTESTING IS NOT A CRIME!
COPS OFF CAMPUS!
DROP THE CHARGES NOW!
